Job Stress & its effects on Performance.

Stress is the responsive situation to the external environment by any person; this situation can be caused by different psychological and physiological disorders produced in the body due to different factors which affects the body. These factors may be;
Psychological &
• Physiological

Different studies and our research has shown that when we study Organizational behaviors and responses of different employees, then we have come to know that Human resource or employee, which is the key element of any Organization has a great impact on Outcomes and production of that Organization. Similarly an employee is the only resource who mostly suffers from Work Stress. A machine or computer ca be replaced or repair by another one, but once a human resource has disturbed or damaged, then it has no other substitute.

Outcomes for Organization

The organizational effects of employee stress are many. The adverse consequences include: low performance and productivity, high rates of absenteeism and turnover, lost customers because of poor worker attitudes, increased alienation of the worker from the job, and even destructive and aggressive behaviors resulting in strikes and sabotage. The stresses experienced by employees who take on critical roles and are responsible for public safety can sometimes be detrimental to the well being of the constituents served. For instance, the stresses experienced by a pharmacist, nurse, medical doctor, or that of an airline pilot, navigator, or air traffic controller, can result in several hundred lost lives. Needless to say that the costs of employee stress to the organization in terms of lost profits, declining assets, bad image projection, poor reputation, and loss of future business are enormous.

Consequences for the Individual

The impact of distress on individuals has subjective, cognitive, physiological, behavioral, and health facets to it. The subjective or intrapersonal effects of stress are feelings of anxiety, boredom, apathy, nervousness, depression, fatigue, anger, irritability and sometimes aggressive behaviors on the part of individual experiencing the stress. The cognitive effects include poor concentration, short attention span, mental blocks, and inability to make decisions. The physiological effects can be seen in increased heart and pulse rate, high blood pressure, dryness of throat, and excessive sweating. The behavioral consequences are manifest in such things as accident proneness, drinking, excessive eating, smoking, nervous laughter, impulsive behaviors, depressions, and withdrawal behaviors. The manifest health effects could be stomach disorders, asthma, eczema, and other psychosomatic disorders. In addition, the mental health, i.e the ability to function effectively in one’s daily life, will also decline as excessive stress is experienced.

Consequence for the Family

Distress, which is handled by individuals in dysfunctional ways, such as resorting to drinking or withdrawal behaviors, will have an adverse effect on their home life. Spouse abuse, child abuse, alienation from family members, and even divorce could result from dysfunctional coping mechanisms. Stressors in the steadily increasing member of dual-career families, where both spouses pursue careers which demand a lot of personal commitment from them (both to their jobs and to the family), are varied in nature. The stresses experienced by the couple stem from role overload since both partners have to manage their careers as well as help the family run on an even keel. Additional stresses are experienced while handling the personal, social, and cultural dilemmas of balancing work and family, discharging parental responsibilities, handling competition at the workplace and within the family, being an involved member of the extended family etc.

Recommendations

• To overcome Work Stress, try to find out the reason behind stress.
• Don’t overlap your social life stress on your official matters or your
official matters on your social life.
• There must be a good working environment in Organizations.
• Try to develop Employer/Employee friendly relations.
• Treat your employee like an important ‘Resource’ don’t treat them like a
‘servants’.
• There must be some counseling of employees, after a certain time period.
• There must be some Medical test of every employee at the every month.
• There must be some extrinsic and intrinsic awards on the performance of
employee.
• Try to retain your Key employees by giving them most benefits.
• Adapt different strategies to overcome the stress, like;
• Stress dealing strategies
• Cognitive therapy
• Behavioral Management
• Networking
• Organizational level strategies

Heroine Detox

What is heroin?

Heroine is an addictive and most abused drug in the world, which is processed from morphine, a substance, which is being extracted from seeds of some poppy plants. It is normally sold in brownish powder form or black sticky substance.

HEROINE DETOX

Detoxification from heroin means to get rid of drugs or heroin, in other words we can say that it is to refuse or deny heroin by a person who has strongly addicted in recent times.

Therefore it is very difficult or sometimes impossible for that person to stop himself/herself, mostly drug addict face a hard time, both psychologically as well as physically for example an addict person suffer from vomiting, anxiety, body pains, body aches, diarrhea, nausea, flue and stomach cramps like symptoms, similarly psychologically he or she became restless, irrigative etc, which makes the patient very uncomfortable.

There are three methods of Heroine detoxification; one is detoxification at home, secondly detoxification at any drug hospital or at any treatment center and the third one is to surgical method of detoxification.

Detoxification at Home:

It is the method of detoxification by yourself at home, but it is very difficult to applicable, because a person who has strongly addicted, can not control himself so effectively, heroin had badly trapped his nervous, if he feels pain in body, then usually he will take some pain killers, but as soon as this effect of pain killer will expire, he will again start to feel pain and so on, similarly if he or she feels anxiety or restlessness, then he would again take some medicines, but as soon as medicine become ineffective, he will again start to feel the same problem.

So doing it by you or at home is not the best way.

Detoxification at some treatment centers:

There are lots of Drug treatment centers in the country now days, who are working so efficiently in order to reduce a huge percentage of drug addicted persons.

It is also a positive approach to get admitted in any treatment center, where medical staff can help those persons to get away from drugs, they give prescribed medicines by a physician.

Although to get treatment in these centers is not cheap and not approachable by everyone, but to get into the life is cheaper then fees of such treatment centers, because life has no other chance.

Detoxification by surgical procedure:

It is now days most rapid way used to detoxification and it has also a great impact, because it uses new scientific techniques of detoxification, however there are some drawbacks in this kind of treatment, one is it is most expensive treatment, and it is not secured kind of treatment, so that a person can also become died, but as research work is going on this technique and soon it will become more secure and cheaper so that it will easily accessible by every kind of person.

Normally detoxification is the condition or stage for an addicted person, in whom he or she is facing lots of complications, but besides applying all these methods of treatments, we should not avoid all that facts or reason due to which a person gets addiction, our society is equally responsible for heroine addiction as any other source of heroine provider.

Gender Disrimination at workforce

What is Gender Base Discrimination?

Gender discrumination is an attitude or action/decision taken with a bias towards individuals on the basis of their gender.

It means we give preference to the men and do not care for the women. With more and more women entering the labor force, there is an increasing need for gender sensitivity in the workplace and for the establishment of a code of conduct for employees of both sexes. A code is particularly necessary given the fact that working women continue to receive rough treatment and are often subjected to varying degrees of harassment even

in the white-ccollar jobs. Women rights Organizations have been demanding

for such a code for quite some time but no progress can be realistically be

made unless our business and commercial Organizations show an interest in

it.

How Gender Discrimination Occurs?

This usually occurs when a woman is not given her due right only because

she is a woman, or a man is assumed to do something only because of his

traditional role as a man and not his merits or capabilities.

Stereotyping

Stereotyping a man or a woman into their traditional role, for example

always asking a woman to make tea at professional meetings or always

expecting a woman to be a teacher and man to be a scientist.

For example, woman can be asked be her male boss for all kinds of favors that do not relate in any way to the job. In addition to that, women usually have to work harder than their make colleagues to prove their worth in a male-dominated environment.

Glass Ceiling

The invisible barrier that blocks females and minorities from ascending into

upper levels of an Organization.

What is sexual Harassment and how it i s made?

There are jokes or graffiti to put down women .

Women are not taken seriously and constantly undetermined.

They are asked unnecessary questions about their personal life or are
being told unnecessary details of their personal life.

They hear constant complaints about their clothing or looks, or
unnecessary praises.

They are invited to dinners constantly; even if the y do not entertain these
advances.

Close physical contacts, while they work

They receive vulgar cards or messages.

Staring at their body.

Some common work related problems that may follow, if women do not respond to the advances or Object to them

No work or too much work given
Refusal to provide information or any support which would be an obligation.
Sudden criticism of work.
Denial of opportunities of trainings.
Bad annual confidential report (ACR) or denial of increment and promotion.
Pressure to quit

Situation in Pakistan

One decade ago:

In Pakistan it was very difficult for women to fully contribute to their

development because the environment to work, in general, it was

difficult and unsupportable. Women commonly faced inappropriate

behaviors and harassment on the streets, at the work place and public

places.
The population of Pakistan according to 1998 census was 130.57 million

(which contain 67.8 million male s and 62.7 million females).

Before 2000, In Pakistan for the female participation rate at workplaces

and in labor force was 42.59 percent.

Recent situation in Pakistan:

The recent situation in Pakistan is satisfactory; however lot of work is still required to reach a better position. Now women have the right to participate actively and equally in the development of the country. The basic four factors which is encouraging females to work outside is the respect and in Pakistani society, women are respected.

Now 63% of women are participating along with men in development and progress of nation

Women are participating in various fields, such as;

Politics
Education
Medical
Industry
Agriculture
And even the Army

K2, The World's Second Heighst Mountain Located in Pakistan

Korakoram Range, Pakistan - China Border
8,611m (28,251 ft)
2nd Highest Mountain In The World.
April To October

K2 peak, locally known by the name of “Chogo Ri”, which means "The Great Mountain", 8,611m, is the 2nd highest mountain in the world. K2 is placed on the Pakistan - China border in the mighty Karakoram range.

With no simple routes, K2 is known as the finest and most dangerous mountain in the world. This is because of the massiveness in the size of this mountain and the numerous unsuccessful attempts made on it by various expeditions, which include mostly American expeditions.

About K2
Korakoram Mountain RangeK2 is a rocky mountain up to 6,000m, beyond which it becomes an ocean of snow. The traditional route to K2's base camp goes from Skardu, which is linked with Islamabad by a good road. From Skardu the route goes via Shigar-Dassu-Askole up to Concordia over the Baltoro glacier.

K2 was firstly discovered and measured by the Survey of India in 1856, and first named for English topographer Henry Godwin - Austen, who explored and surveyed the region.

K2 is taken from the first letter of Karakorum, and the number indicates that it was the second peak in the range to be measured. K2 was firstly climbed on July,31 1954 by Italian climbers team lead by Ardito Desio and accompanying him were Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni. A March 1987 measurement of K2 indicated that it might be higher than Everest, but later that year, Everest was re-measured by a similar method and found to indeed be 778 ft (237m) taller.

The Korakoram Range
Karakorum or Karakoram, mountain range, extending 480-kms, between the Indus and Yarkant rivers, North Kashmir, South central Asia; South Easy extension of the Hindu Kush mountain range. It covers disputed territory, held by China on the north, India on the east, and Pakistan on the west. Karakorum's main range has some of the world's highest peaks, including K2 called Mt. Godwin-Austen, the second highest peak in the world.

Karakorum also has several of the world's largest glaciers. Its southern slopes are the watershed for many tributaries of the Indus River. The mountains, which are the greatest barrier between India and Central Asia, are crossed above the perpetual snow line by two natural routes. Karakorum Pass (18,290 ft/5,575 m), is the chief pass on the main Kashmir - China route. Another important pass, Khunjerab (Kunjirap) Pass (15,420 ft/4,700m), is on the Pakistan - China route.

Henry Godwin-Austin
Godwin-Austen, was a English topographer and geologist. An officer in the British army (1851-77), he was assigned to several government surveys in North India, especially among the Himalayas. He explored and surveyed the region of the Karakorum around K2, which is also known as Mt. Godwin-Austen after him.

The 11 Corporate Lessons from Movie "Rocket Singh"

Lesson # 1
Money doesn’t motivate everybody equally.

• You cannot always convince people with money only.
• You need to persuade, converse, negotiate and engage.
• Money is one of the several variables of motivation. Someone needs just sweet words and someone needs a little persuasion.
• Tailor the approach of motivation. Use money where it is required only.

Lesson # 2
To thrive in sales, you need right aptitude (not just marks on your degrees).

You can be a topper in the university and the greatest number cruncher on planet earth but may not be a great salesperson (an influencer, a persuader and negotiator.) To be a great salesperson, you need to have right aptitude……an aptitude of empathy, an aptitude to see beyond the obvious.

Lesson # 3
“Disturbing” others is pre-requisite to be salesperson.

Asking (or disturbing people) is pre-requisite to become a great salesperson. If you are hesitant to break the ice, start conversations and ask for help and guidance and engage people in discussions, you then need to cultivate people skills. Great salespeople come one step forward, after saying hello, they confidently say, “Can you please help me”?

Lesson # 4
What is good for the goose cannot be bad for the gander!

Don’t expect honesty from salespeople in the organization if you encourage them to become kick-backers and bribers with the clients. If organization encourages its sales and marketing teams to bribe the clients’ organization to take orders, it is, in fact, plowing the seeds of dishonesty in the organizational culture. Organization has no right to expect internal integrity and honesty if it is promoting malpractices in the clients’ organizations.

Lesson # 5
The greatest secret of success in business: Satisfied Clients

Customer Service (24/7) makes the organizations outsmart the competition. In order to thrive and excel in the business, organizations need to cultivate a service culture across the board. You cannot afford to forget the customer once you take the check.

Delighted and satisfied customers are your ambassadors and their referral can generate more business than you can handle.

Lesson # 6
Make people Partners in business; they will be no more Pain!

If associates are treated like partners, they will own the organization. Allow them to grow as the company grows. If humans are treated as Resources and Capital meant to be consumed and used, they will act like leaches sucking away the vital veins of the organization and reaching out to the bone marrows. Sales & Marketing people employed on fixed salary work from 9 to 5. If they are partners in the profitability, they will sell even in dreams and will become killer sales machines……timeless and spaceless. Mediocres become Masterminds when they are involved.

Lesson # 7
Even zero has the value.

Zero is magical in character. It can multiply the value of any number if placed rightly. The lowest person in the organizational hierarchy can do wonders if he/she is put at the right place. And genius can ruin the whole game if placed wrongly. Matching of inherent talent with job description is critical for success of the organization.

Lesson # 8
Every one is born with potential of ‘vice & virtue’.

Every employee has both the qualities……the qualities of Rising & Falling in career. Which quality is dominant, determines your destiny. Certain attitudes will put a gravitational pull on you while others will make you ‘sky’s the beginning’ type.

Lesson # 9
Spiderman also takes the risk.

Jumping out of comfort zones, taking initiatives and playing with risks is what makes the difference. If you are stuck in the grooves of ‘safety’, you end up nowhere. The road from Good to Great is paved with taking initiatives. The biggest risk in life is to avoid the risk. Even Spiderman has to take the risk.

Lesson # 10
You need a loyal team to build Rocket Sales Corporation.

Great organizations are built by great teams and not by accident. Teams are built by reinforced trust, mutual respect, sharing and caring. The trust deficit among the team members erodes the team spirit. Build a great team; build a great organization.

Lesson # 11
If salesperson cannot read the paper in reverse, he/she is blind.

Every Sales & Marketing person has to keep his/her eyes and ears open to scan the information regarding prospects, competition and the market influencers. In the game of business, right information at the right time gives you ‘unfair’ advantage. Be the corporate Sherlock Holmes.

Solar energy can be the best resource of Electrical energy in future

Pakistan is facing massive power shortage. Most cities in the country are suffering from frequent loadshedding, and the situation in the rural areas is even worst.
It can easily be said that if no emphasis is placed on increasing our electricity generation capacity, the situation will only deteriorate. And rather than relying only on the current sources of power generation, we need to turn to renewable sources, like wind, water, sun, etc. Here we look at the different modes of power generation through renewable energy.

Typically, electricity is generated from fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. The use of these sources contributes to pollution problems, resulting in global warming, greenhouse effect and acid rain. The burning of fossil fuels gives off harmful chemicals like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, arsenic and ash. The emission of these chemicals, particularly carbon dioxide, is leading to an increase in greenhouse effect. Greenhouse effect rises the temperature of our planet and due to this rise in temperature, glaciers have started to melt, raising the sea levels.

On the other hand, fossil fuels contain carbon, sulphur and nitrogen which, when burnt, form their oxides. Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide combine with moisture in the atmosphere, forming sulphuric and nitric acid respectively, which lead to acid rain. Acid rain has harmful effects on both flora and fauna.
In a nutshell, the harmful effects of fossil fuels are many and, in addition, our reserves of fossil fuels cannot last forever so we should not depend heavily on them for the generation of electricity. Therefore, the exploitation of renewable energy for power generation has been carried out by many countries across the globe. A renewable resource is one which can be regenerated naturally, examples being generation of electricity using solar and wind power.

SOLAR POWER GENERATION:
As the name suggests, solar energy utilises the energy of the most powerful source -- the sun. You might have seen or used watches and calculators that are empowered by solar energy. Similarly, electric power can also be generated on large scale by utilising solar radiation. Among the renewable resources, solar energy is most commonly used today as it is a renewable source that is clean, free and viable. The use of solar energy has been actively pursued in many countries round the world.

There are two basic ways to generate electric power from solar radiation -- one is photovoltaic (PV) technology (the one used in solar calculators and watches) and the second is concentrated solar power (CSP) technology.

PV is a terminology used for panels that generate electricity. The material that is used for PV panels is generally pure silicon that converts sunlight directly to electricity. When sunlight strikes the silicon material, electrons are extricated, resulting in the flow of electric current. The PV technology is best suited for domestic purposes like indoor and outdoor lighting, and is being used even in Pakistan for the electrification of remote areas.

Concentrated photovoltaic or solar thermal electricity technologies generate electric power by transmuting the energy obtained from the sun into heat, using mirrors of various configurations. This heat is then transferred to the power plant which uses it to generate electric power through heat conversion techniques. The power plant mainly consists of two parts, one converts the collected solar energy into heat, while the other converts heat energy into electricity.

Some systems use this technology to produce electricity at night or during cloudy weather. CSP systems can be use to produce electricity in remote areas on both small and large scale. There are three basic CSP technologies -- sterling engines, solar troughs and solar tower. While power generated using solar power is free, simple and inexhaustible, and there needs to be further development so that this clean and cost-effective source is feasible for large-scale electricity generation.

Pakistan is blessed with a lot of sunlight all around. Institutes such as National Institute of Silicon Technology (NIST), Pakistan Council of Appropriate Technology (PCAT), Solar Energy Research Centre (SERC), Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, are working to promote the use of solar energy for power generation in the country. This will not only be beneficial for the environment but will also reduce our reliance on the vulnerable fossil fuels, accompanied by reduction in load on the present electric supply system. People in remote areas will also be able to get electricity and as no fuel is burnt, this clean source of energy will not add to pollution.
